This page lists every command of the Kaneo CLI with its arguments and flags. Run any command with --help to see the same information in your terminal.

Conventions

  • <task> is a ticket ID such as KAN-12, or a task ID.
  • -p, --project takes a project key such as KAN, or a project ID. Without it, the CLI uses KANEO_PROJECT or the project in .kaneo.json.
  • Dates accept YYYY-MM-DD, today, tomorrow or a number of days ahead such as +3d. Edit commands also accept none to clear a date.
  • Arguments in [brackets] are optional. Many of them open a picker or a prompt when you run the command in a terminal. In scripts, pass them.
  • Commands that delete or remove data ask for confirmation in a terminal. In scripts they stop with an error until you pass -y, --yes.
  • Repeatable flags can be passed more than once.

Global flags

These work with every command.

Account and setup

kaneo

Shows your account, workspace, open tasks and the main commands.

kaneo login

Signs in with your browser and stores the login. --no-browser prints the sign-in link instead of opening a browser. Add --api-url for a self-hosted server, and --profile to store the login under a name other than default.

kaneo logout

Signs out and forgets the stored token.

kaneo whoami

Shows the account and server you are using. Terminals that can show images also show your avatar.

kaneo context

Shows the server, web app, profile, account, workspace, project, config file and output mode in use, and where each value came from: a flag, an environment variable, .kaneo.json or the stored login.

kaneo doctor

Checks the config file, that the server answers, that you are signed in, that the workspace exists, and that the server has every API operation this CLI uses. Exits with code 1 when a check fails.
Saves the workspace and project for this repository in .kaneo.json. In a terminal, missing values are picked from a list. In scripts, pass both. -w takes a workspace ID or slug here.
Removes the workspace and project from .kaneo.json, and deletes the file when nothing else is left in it. It asks first in a terminal. In scripts it unlinks right away.

kaneo profile list

Lists stored logins with the server and user of each.

kaneo profile use

Switches the stored login your commands use.

kaneo profile rename

Renames a stored login.

kaneo profile remove

Signs out of a stored login and forgets it.

kaneo task edit

Changes a task’s title, description, priority, dates or labels.

kaneo task open

Opens the task in your browser.

kaneo task status

Moves a task to another column of its project. The column is a slug or a name, such as in-progress or Done.

kaneo task move

Moves a task to another project. -s, --status picks the column in the destination project. By default the task keeps the same column, or goes to the first one.

kaneo task duplicate

Copies a task with its description, labels and custom fields. --title sets the title of the copy. -p puts the copy in another project.

kaneo task bulk

kaneo task assign

Assigns a task to me, an email address, a name or a user ID. --unassign removes the assignee.

kaneo task comment

Adds a comment to a task. When you leave out the text, it is read from stdin.

kaneo task attach

Uploads files to a task and adds them to its description. Images are shown inline.

kaneo task images

kaneo task relation add

Links two tasks. <type> says how the first task relates to the other: subtask-of, parent-of, blocks, blocked-by or relates-to.

kaneo task relation remove

Unlinks two tasks. -t, --type removes only that relation. When several relations would be removed, the CLI asks first.
Lists a task’s links, including issues and pull requests from integrations.
Attaches an http or https link to a task. -t, --title sets the text shown instead of the address.
Removes a link you added. <link> is the link ID from kaneo task link list (the first characters are enough) or its URL.

kaneo task activity

Shows the history of a task: status changes, assignments, comments and more. -L, --limit shows only the latest events. Default: 30.

kaneo task delete

Permanently deletes a task with its comments and time entries.

kaneo task export

Exports a project’s tasks as JSON, ready for kaneo task import. -o, --output writes to a file instead of stdout.

kaneo task import

Creates tasks in a project from a JSON file, or - for stdin. The file is the output of kaneo task export, or a JSON array of tasks that each have at least a title. Labels are not imported. --dry-run checks the file and shows what would be imported.

Comments

kaneo comment list

Shows the comments on a task, oldest first. -L, --limit shows only the latest comments. Default: 50.

kaneo comment add

Adds a comment in Markdown. Pass the text, - to read stdin, or -F, --file to read a file (- for stdin). With no text, it is read from stdin.

kaneo label delete

Deletes a label and removes it from every task.

Durations look like 1h30m, 45m, 2h, 1.5h or 1:30, and must be at least one minute. -m, --note adds a short note about the work.

kaneo time start

Starts a timer on a task. Only one timer runs at a time. If another one is running, the CLI offers to stop it in a terminal. In scripts it stops with an error.

kaneo time stop

Stops your running timer. If you started it outside the CLI on a task that is not assigned to you, pass the task.

kaneo time status
